Power distribution is the process of delivering electricity from the power grid to end users. Electricity generated by power plants is transmitted over long distances at high voltage. Near consumption areas, substations and distribution transformers gradually reduce the voltage before supplying homes, commercial buildings, and factories.
A typical low-voltage distribution system consists of transformers, distribution panels, circuit breakers, cables, and electrical equipment. Distribution panels divide electricity among different circuits. Circuit breakers automatically disconnect the power supply during overloads or short circuits. Residual-current devices quickly interrupt the circuit when electrical leakage occurs, reducing the risk of electric shock and fire. Grounding systems safely conduct fault currents into the earth and are also essential for electrical safety.
In daily use, avoid overloading outlets, operating appliances with wet hands, or modifying wiring without authorization. If wires become unusually hot, a burning smell appears, breakers trip frequently, or equipment enclosures become energized, disconnect the power immediately and contact a qualified electrician. Regular inspection and maintenance help improve reliability, extend equipment life, and protect people and property.
